Our approach

Why we work the slow way

Driftfield started because we were tired of watching good work vanish into warehouse shelving. Here's the whole reasoning.

The model

No warehouse, no overstock, no waste

Traditional online shops buy in bulk, store it, and hope it sells before it goes out of fashion. We do the opposite — every order is placed with the maker only once you've bought it, so nothing is produced speculatively and nothing sits unsold in a container.

It's a little slower. It's also the only way we've found to keep quality and honesty in the same sentence.

Orders placed with makers in real time
No speculative stock, no landfill returns
Every maker visited or vetted personally
No warehouse, no overstock, no waste

How Driftfield has grown

2019

Kitchen-table beginnings

Started as a side project selling one carpenter's olive-wood boards.

2021

First ten makers

Grew slowly, adding workshops we'd actually visited or spoken with at length.

2023

Moved to Oak Lane

Opened a small studio office above the old print shop, still just the two of us.

2025

38 workshops, one shop

Still turning down faster growth in favour of makers we trust.
